A quick reminder about sewer charge adjustments for sewer customers in individual metered units. Your ordnance 2012-05 reads,

Section 28-95.1. Sewer charge adjustment for sewer customers in individual metered units.

a. A residential customer living in an individually metered dwelling unit may, at his or her option, during the period from September fifteenth (15th) through September thirtieth (30th) of each year apply to the City to have their sewer charges adjusted for the preceding months of May, June, July and August based on the average amount of water used by such customer during the preceding months of October, November, December, January and February.

b. Commercial Businesses (for watering purposes only) may also be included in this adjustment process.

c. Such averaging is unavailable to residents who were not customers of the City during the preceding period of October through February.

d. In the event any month of the October through February averaging time period has a zero or the minimum charge, such month shall be excluded in determining the average water usage.

e. Any adjustment refunds shall be applied as credit on future sewer and water bills of such customer

So, please note the date is close!

A further note in line with sewer rates, The Missouri Public Utilities Assoc. completed a study that was updated in March 2012 for cities with a population of between 3001-5999 which demonstrates a high for a monthly sewer bill of $54.79 and sewer bill of $7.50. This is an extreme variance in charges while seventeen cities were higher in monthly sewer charges than Lexington of fifty cities included in the study. So our monthly sewer charges are in line with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, which is preparing to enact at the direction of the United States Environmental agency a minimum charge for sewer usage to pay for increased sanitation requirements.
